General description of the collection: The New York Cavalry 8th Regiment papers include unit papers; two pamphlets recording various facets of the history of the regiment. One by Captain Thomas Bell at Harpers Ferry (1900) recounting the unit's history from its arrival to Washington to its service at the Battle of Antietam with emphasis on Harper's Ferry breakout. The other by Captain Albert Huntington, 8th New York Cavalry (1902), describing the outfit's service at Chancellorsville, Brandy Station, and Gettysburg.
